Mr. Per Breida
18/11/1952 - 25/07/2024 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Per (Pete) Breida on July 25, 2024 in Magog, Quebec.
Predeceased by his parents, Carl Johan and Inger (Hegstad) Breida, and by his brother, John, Pete was deeply loved by his family. He adored his brother John, who he called his best friend, and missed him terribly. Pete will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his sister, Inger McNamara, his brother-in law Mike McNamara, and his three nieces Katie, Kim and Lisa McNamara.
Born in Oslo, Norway in 1952, Pete came to Canada with his parents in 1954. He remained a Norwegian citizen and always felt strongly attached to his Norwegian roots. He enjoyed the contact he had with his Norwegian cousins and was always happy to chat in Norwegian with Ole-Jakob. Pete will be remembered for his gentle and caring manner, the warm smile he offered to everyone, his giant bear hugs, his love for the natural world, and his joy at shovelling his driveway on a cold winter’s day.
A special thank you to the team at the CIUSSS de l’Estrie-CHUS and in particular to Serge Béland, who stood by Pete over many years with kindness and great compassion. Thank you as well to the warm-hearted Martine Coulombe and all those who looked after Pete during the past months when he lived at Les Jardins Pinecroft seniors’ residence. Pete will always have a special place in the hearts of all those who were lucky to have known him.
A private ceremony will be held to honour Pete.
